This course required me to step out of my westernized shoes and see the world from the perspectives of different cultures. We looked at the ways in which culture effects different aspects of development, cognition, emotion, etcetera. Our ongoing assignment was to interview and attempt to understand the culture of an international student from Manhattanville. I interviewed a freshman from Argentina and learned a great deal about the culture. We also had to do a portrait of our own culture, which was quite difficult. It is hard to assess the reasons behind what we do, other than the fact that it is all we know.
